Just in time for Black Friday, Google has added a new feature to Google Maps to help shoppers and travelers plan their trips in advance.
Now, users can access the indoor floor plans of more than 10,000 locations around the world using Google Maps on their Web browser.
“Before heading home for the holidays or out to shop on Black Friday, check out indoor maps of the airport or shopping mall on your desktop to better plan your trip,” Google Maps wrote in a Google+ message announcing the development Wednesday.
To view the layouts, search a location in Google and zoom in until details appear, including restrooms, departments within a store and ATM locations.
The 34th Street Macy’s in New York City, the Smithsonian Metro Station in Washington and the Atlanta airport are some of the locations with floor plans already available online.
The Herald Square Macy’s floor plan shows where to find shoes, handbags, men’s fragrances and more within the store. It also shows the locations of escalators, elevators and wheelchair-accessible entrances.
Google has posted a list with participating places, which includes museums, casinos, universities, sports venues and more.
Venue owners who want to add their floor plans can do so with the Google Maps Floor Plan tool.
The feature can be used on desktops and iPhones in a Web browser.
