British-based chip designer ARM posted a pre-tax profit of roughly $125.9 million, up 16% in the fourth quarter.
The popular ARM Cortex series of processors can be found in the vast majority of mobile devices and tablets out there, which explains the higher than expected quarterly profit.
ARM licenses its processor designs to other manufacturers, which is how many little-known companies are able to release smartphones and tablets without having to stomach the extra R&D costs which come with developing your own SoC.
ARM’s growth is expected to continue into this year, fueled by a fast-growing tablet market.
