Retro Mobile MP3 Player lets you listen to music through an old cellphone

The Retro Mobile MP3 Player is a $20 MP3 player and radio with a quirky vintage cellphone design.

Old cell phones are huge. They’re heavy.  They can’t text, because texting didn’t exist once upon a time. They can’t surf the net, because most of them didn’t have screens. The technology of the time was almost nonexistent. It’s almost hard to imagine people actually used them, given what our phones do today. But it’s true: At one point, we were forced to use phones that only made calls.

Apparently, some people miss these phones, as a company called Brando just made an MP3 player out of those hideous cellphones from the dinosaur age.

It’s called the Retro Mobile MP3 Player. It boasts a built-in a USB port and micro SD(HC) card Slot which can read micro SD(HC) memory card and USB memory. It can play MP3 and WMA audio files directly. It also connects to MP3 players, CD players, notebooks, PC, portable gaming systems and just about anything else you can imagine with a 3.5mm stereo audio connector. It charges via a built-in lithium battery.

Many are calling it the worst gadget of the year. It has an AM/FM radio and an MP3 player, but who would want to carry that ginormous thing around? It’s cool to have nostalgia for the days when we were technologically lost, but to bring it back in our current world?

The Retro Mobile MP3 Player may simply be more of a novelty toy than an actual usable device. Yet for $20, it’s hard to think of anyone who would want to purchase the thing. If we want an old cellphone, couldn’t we just go find one at Goodwill? Or we could even look in our attics or basements, there’s got to be some old, forgotten cellphones hiding somewhere.
