15% of Windows Phone carry the GDR3 update

Microsoft is big on uniformity with their Windows Phone brand: you’re not going to see any skinned versions of their quickly rising mobile platform anytime soon. As a result, manufacturers also face some hardware restrictions. Maximum screen resolution and maximum processor speed caps are part of the territory.

However, the GDR3 update will allow WP handsets to utilize bigger screens with 1080 x 1920 resolutions, as well as quad-core processors; and it turns out that 15% of Windows Phones surveyed in Q4 2013, are carrying GDR3. This means that more powerfully spec’d Windows Phone devices are on the horizon.

Another interesting feature of the GDR3 update is the added Data Sense application. Data Sense assists in the regulation of data expenditure by stopping background data pushes/pulls while you’re roaming outside of your network. It’s a pretty nifty feature, considering the price gouges on data roaming.

Mendelvich also reported on the top 12 selling Windows Phones: and all of them are Nokia handsets, unsurprisingly. Any Windows Phone naysayers out there think that the GDR3 makes the devices more worthwhile?
