16.3 MP Fujifilm X-T1 combines APS-C sensor and weather resistance

Fujifilm has premiered the latest member to its X line of cameras – the X-T1. The device is premium-built, highly portable and very advanced. First off it features 80 points of weather sealing so that it’s water and dust resistant and can work up to -10 degrees Celsius. For the sealing to work you’d need to use one of three weather-repellent zoom lenses Fujifilm is releasing this year.

Although lacking a mirror (and thus not counting as a DSLR), the X-T1 has a 16MP APS-C sized sensor and its 2.36m dot OLED electronic viewfinder is said to be the fastest in the world and “almost indistinguishable” from an optical viewfinder thanks to its 0.005s lag-time. The viewfinder also has the “world’s highest magnification (0.77x) for a digital camera” and three modes – Full, which shows a complete view of the scene, Normal which gives the optimum shooting view and Dual, which is designed for manual focus and shows a slit screen of Normal and focus area.

Here’s a picture, representing the modes in action.

The Fujifilm X-T1 also has three mechanical dials for shutter speed, ISO, metering, drive mode and exposure compensation. There are also six configurable buttons for easy access to functions.

Autofocusing is claimed to be the fastest in the world at 0.08 seconds and thanks to the EXR Processor II the startup time of the camera is around half of a second. Shutter lag is 0.05 s and with a shooting interval of 0.5 s the X-T1 can do 8 shots per second shooting.

The image sensor is the APS-C-sized X-Trans CMOS II with original color array and promises control over moire and false color reproduction. There’s also a 3″ tilting LCD with 1.04m dots on the back. The Fujifilm X-T1 offers remote control through Android devices thanks to its built-in Wi-Fi.

The camera will work with existing X-Mount XF and XC lenses and also with the XF18-135mmF3.5-5.6 R OIS WR, XF16-55mmF2.8 R OIS WR and XF50-140mmF2.8 R OIS WR lenses. It will be available for $1,299.95 for the body only or $1,699.95 kitted with the XF18mm-55mm F2.8-4 lens.
