Microsoft is done with 8.1 for its mainline OS (both x86 and RT), now we’re waiting for 8.1 to hits the phone platform. While we wait, we get the occasional leak to give us a better idea on what to expect – like on-screen buttons, a file manager and now redesigned HERE Maps and Games Hub.
The changes in HERE Maps are relatively small, but may signal a new direction for the looks of the interface.
There is now a permanent search bar on top next to a prominent HERE logo. The bar at the bottom has been removed, with only a couple of buttons with no background at the bottom row remaining. Here’s how HERE Maps looks on the Lumia 1520 (GDR3 update) and the spy shot.

Games Hub looks a lot busier with more elements fitted on the screen. The leaked image also advertises SmartGlass integration (SmartGlass is a separate app at the moment).

There’s also the first glimpse of Cortana, the upcoming virtual assistant. If you were imagining the attractive avatar the assistant is named for, you’re in for a bit of a disappointment (that wouldn’t have been practical anyway).
Early indications are that the Windows Phone 8.1 update will arrive on March 11.
