The Blogger platform has been extremely popular for a very long time now, so much so that Google actually bought them out a few years back for a sizeable sum of money. It was one of the very first platforms that you could create your very own website and write down your every thought for the world to read.
While Blogger was great for the time that it was popular, there are a lot of reasons that you should consider switching to a more robust and modern platform. WordPress is a prime example of a well supported, modern platform that many people are switching to in order to update their blogs.
1. Reliability
WordPress is self-hosted, so any mistakes in uptime or downtime will be yours and yours alone. Blogger is run by a 3rd party, so you could run into an unexpected outage that brings your website down without your control. That’s not a very reasonable option for building a website that brings in a lot of traffic.
2. Own Your Domain
With WordPress you have the option to install the CMS on your very own domain name, meaning that you get all of the benefits of a shorter domain and the SEO that goes along with it. Blogger blogs are stored on a subdomain, meaning that if Blogger ever goes down…so does your website. That’s not a great position to be in when it comes to building a web property.
3. SEO
With the amount of SEO plugins available for WordPress, you have maximum customizability over how you want to present your content for the search engines. With Blogger blogs you have a few options to play with, but nowhere near the amount of control that even a mediocre WordPress plugin offers.
4. Customizability
The true beauty of WordPress is the flexibility of the platform. Blogger has some themes and customization options available, but with WordPress you can do anything you want. Ecommerce, blog, news, magazine, or multimedia websites can be created with the platform. You are only limited by your own imagination!
5. Support
If you have a problem with your WordPress blog, all you need to do is consult the Codex and you’re practically guaranteed to find the answer that you need within a few mouseclicks. That’s the beauty of working with a platform that is so well documented and supported over the years – you’re not going to run into a problem that someone hasn’t already solved!
The Vote Is In
These are just five reasons that WordPress is the superior choice over Blogger, but we could come up with hundreds more. If you’ve been thinking about making the switch, go ahead and jump in headfirst! You’ll learn along the way and your website will be much better as you go. If you are worried about losing date, search for a migration service like BlogWranglers that helps you transfer everything including your old posts & comments.
