Facebook Is Always Helpful

When it comes to finding people, Facebook just might be the best option. If you are not able to find it, you will probably have to message or add that person to get the information.

This is by far the easiest, fastest, and most effective method out there. However, it will take a lot of time for you to try and find the website since there are so many results. There will be millions of results and so it can be tough to really narrow it down. You will only be lucky if the person you are looking for has a unique name. However, if you are looking for someone with a common name like John Smith, you will have a very hard time trying to get what you need. LinkedIn & Other Professional Sites

There are plenty of sites that will offer you a free service that will help you to search for people. Whether it is for business purposes or you are just looking to contact someone, you can use sites like LinkedIn or Manta to try and find them. However, these two sites are more focused on business owners and will not really give you much information on your long lost friend from middle school. That is why this method is only useful for those that need to find someone because of businesses.

Dropbox offering up to 25GB free space for students competing in their Space Race

Dropbox has announced a new program called the Space Race meant for school and university students where you can earn up to 25GB for yourself and your schoolmates while competing against other schools in the program.

To be part of this program, you have to be from one of the eligible educational institutions and have their official email address. Once you create an account with this ID, you automatically get 3GB of space by default for two years. If you already have an account or want to register with some other email address you can but you still have to confirm your school ID with them.

Every time a student from your institution creates an account this way it gets 1 point. If you go through the Get Started page, your institution gets 2 points. If you refer someone, you get 500MB for free. The more points your institution earns, the more storage each of the registered members can get, up to 25GB in total for two years.

The program lasts for eight weeks and you can try to get as many points as you can by the end of it and see which of the institutions in the end got the most points.

Gamify Your PhD winner Dysbosis is a shooter that teaches you about healthy guts

The Wellcome Trust's Gamify Your PhD competition found its victor, a game that reconsiders old school shooters as educational tools.

Video games can do more than improve hand-eye coordination, spatial learning skills, and short-term memory. The way video games affect those skills, in fact, makes them the ideal platform to convey more complex information. The Wellcome Trust, the UK-based non-profit devoted to improving the health of people and animals alike, sees the potential in video games to help better people’s understanding of medical science outside the realm of business and academia. The Gamify Your PhD project backed by the Wellcome Trust was all about pairing scientists with game developers to birth games that could entertain as much as Pac-man while also demonstrating the theory behind complex biology.

Six development teams were gathered to develop games about subjects including molecular biology and addiction recovery. Judges included both department heads from the Wellcome Trust and even game industry figures like Charlie Hasdell, the designer of SingStar.

The Wellcome Trust announced the winner of its game jam on Friday, naming Margherita Coccia and developers Clockwork Cuckoo and Force of Habit’s game Dysbosis the champion.

Outward appearances can be deceiving. At first, Dysbosis looks like a subtle mix the old school shooting of Jeff Minter’s games liked Tempest with the quiet beats of Q Games PixelJunk Eden. Unlike those games though, it demonstrates the principals behind intestinal immunology. “We have evolved different mechanisms in our intestine to keep harmful invading microbes at bay, while fostering our beneficial bacteria,” reads Force of Habit’s game description. “In Dysbosis, the player controls a collection of cells that form part of the intestinal wall, shooting harmful oncoming bacteria and allowing through the healthy bacteria.”

What’s fascinating about Coccia’s game is that it demonstrates the utility of old, pre-established game rules out of pure entertainment. Force of Habit didn’t reinvent the shooter wheel for Dysbosis, it used a rock solid game design to effectively communicate basic information about healthy human biology. Tempest was made to separate you from your quarters, but here Minter’s game is reconsidered and remade into something that is beneficial to society.

Hands-on with Loop Attachment Mummy iPhone 4 case: Wrap your phone with silicone

For those who want to carry their cards and cash without a wallet, the Mummy iPhone case has a fun feature for slipping necessities underneath.

My high school Spanish teacher had a wallet that was covered in duct tape. The thing looked like it was falling apart, but he claimed bandaging it in durable material kept the wallet sturdy and made it look cheap, so no one would want to steal it or the contents inside. At the time, the concept of wrapping your gadget anything didn’t make sense to me. Why would anyone think this design concept could be… desirable?

It’s probably because most wrap designs didn’t look anything like Loop Attachment’s Mummy iPhone case. There comes a certain point of utility, design, and durability where all three aspects mesh in-sync to form a product that’s actually wanted by the people. In our hands-on, we dig into what we love about this iPhone 4/4S case and what could be improved.

Look and feel

Available in a giant array of colors, the Loop Attachment Mummy case is, off the bat, hip, trendy, and just looks minimal but cool. The silicone body is flexible, and simply fits over your iPhone by a light stretch over the four corners. Pre-made slots are cut out for the power, volume, and hold buttons while the entire lower end for the cords is mostly open. This means dockability with your home stereos and no fussing to get the battery charger plugged in. In the back, you’ll find the bandaged, mummy straps randomly hugging the body of your iPhone. The camera area is almost untouched, leaving no material to incur possible flash interference with the iPhone’s camera lens. 

On the hand, the silicone feels soft and comfortable to grip. It makes the iPhone 4 much less delicate to the touch, and easier to handle without the fear of dropping and destroying the glass. The lightweight body also adds virtually no difference to the iPhone, which is an added plus for those who dislike bulkiness. I also love that the Loop logo is not overwhelming or obnoxious, and blends quite seamlessly on the silicone.

Utility

The Mummy case may look like it has random straps along the back, but rest assured, these placements were no accident. The thickness of the silicone is the perfect size for a raised bumper in the front, allowing you to place your phone screen size down without any damage. The back also leaves enough room for you to pull the straps slightly apart and stick your I.D. card, credit cards, or a few dollar bills within. Much like the Speck SmartFlex Card case we’ve seen several months ago, the idea is for you to go out with your necessities all in one place. This way, you don’t have to lug a purse around if you’re out in a bar or a concert.

The difference between the Speck case and the Mummy is, because the straps are much more flexible, you can fit more than just three cards in the back. Still, we don’t recommend you overdo it before the silicone becomes too loose. From what I can tell, storing your credit cards on the back of your phone does not to interfere with their magnetic strips but discontinue use if you experience any problem.

We don’t have many gripes about the Mummy case other than the silicone tends to be a bit of a dust magnet, and that the bandage design leaves parts of your iPhone exposed. Still, because the thickness is just right, your phone should still be pretty protected since the silicone keeps it at least a few millimeters away from the iPhone’s surface. Keep in mind, however, that if you toss your phone in a bad and a set of keys happen to scratch your phone from within, that might still be an issue.

Bottom Line

While I personally like the idea of a bandaged iPhone — certainly much more than I liked my teacher’s duct tape wallet — this is an iPhone case I would switch to on special occasions. The Mummy makes a great accessory for replacing your wallet for the night, and is interesting enough to draw conversations about the design. At $25, it is also moderately priced for a comfortable case with a neat function.

Stolen iPhone results in cop chase, shooting, school lockdown and finally, arrests

When the victim of a phone theft reported the incident to cops in San Francisco on Monday, they probably didn't expect that a cop chase, shooting, school lockdown and eventual arrest of the suspects (with one found in the trunk of a car) would be the result.

A stolen mobile phone usually, at the very most, results in a visit to the cop shop, the filling out of a few forms and then a trip to the phone store to sort out a replacement. But, evidently, it doesn’t always work out that way.

In San Francisco on Monday, for example, a smartphone stolen in the city’s Ocean View neighborhood resulted in a police chase, a school lockdown and an officer firing their gun.

According to a San Francisco Chronicle report, it all started at around 6.30am when two men stole a pedestrian’s iPhone at gunpoint. Using the phone-locating Find My iPhone app, officers discovered that the device was somewhere in the Noe Valley neighborhood in the center of the city.

After pinpointing the suspects, officers approached them but – surprise, surprise – they both scarpered.

During the pursuit, one of the suspects turned towards an officer with their hand concealed close to their body – of course, a move like that in such a tense situation rarely ends with a friendly shake of the hands and the exchange of a few pleasantries. No, in this case, the pursuing officer, believing her life to be in imminent danger, took out her gun and fired at the suspect, who subsequently managed to escape unharmed.

As the chase continued, police locked down nearby St. Paul’s Catholic Church and its adjoining elementary school for around half an hour to secure the safety of those inside.

Cops then tracked the stolen handset to a car with a person sitting inside. After apprehending the occupant, they also found someone hiding in the trunk, together with a stash of other allegedly stolen smartphones. Job done.

It might seem like quite a palaver for one stolen phone, but with smartphone theft on the rise, and more handset owners getting up to speed with enabling find-my-phone type apps, perhaps we’ll be hearing more stories like this in the future.

Security experts also recommend that handset owners enable the lock screen on their device and install a remote wipe app to prevent personal details being taken in the event of a theft – or loss – of a phone.

Rumor: Fallout 4 heads to Boston and MIT

An alleged MIT employee claims Bethesda's been scouting the school and Boston for Fallout 4.

Bethesda is going to make Fallout 4. It will do this because Bethesda and its owner, publishing umbrella ZeniMax, are businesses and they make creative works likely to make money. People liked Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. A lot. Yeah, Bethesda will probably sit down and build another irradiated wasteland for people to wander and mess about in. That’s not in question: It’s the locale that will be up in the air. The Elder Scrolls studio let you drift about Las Vegas and the District of Columbia in the past. Next time, it’ll let you act out all your post-apocalyptic Good Will Hunting fan fiction and fight a mutated Bill Belichick. Fallout 4 is headed to Boston.

So says Reddit user “Fallout4boston.” This intrepid tipster hit the aggregator community over the weekend claiming to be an MIT employee. That educational institution will figure prominently in the next Fallout game as Bethesda has reportedly paid a number of scouting visits to the campus lately.

The Boston area is called “The Commonwealth” in Fallout lore, an area as nasty and unforgiving as Pittsburgh remnants “The Pit,” but also home to the “Institute” and the “Railroad.” The Institute, built from the remnants of MIT, is an organization producing technologically advanced weapons and human-like androids that pop up in Fallout 3’s quests. The Railroad is the Institute’s sworn enemies, a group trying to free the androids. Both factions are classic Fallout, cleaver references to familiar 20^th century trappings, slightly warped. Example: The Railroad refers to the Tech Model Railroad Club, an unofficial group formed at MIT in the ‘40s remembered as the first hacker collective.

A perfect set up for a new Fallout adventure. That technological conflict is very different from past entries in the series, and the harsh coastal climate of Boston should make for a familiar but different setting. Not to mention all the hilarious accents wandering muties are bound to have!

All this is speculation though. The only official anything out there for Fallout 4 is the ZeniMax-owned URL Fallout4.com, but its owned that domain since 2004, back when Bethesda’s ownership of the series was hotly contested by Interplay.

That said, Fallout 4 will probably be a reality well before series albatross, the Fallout MMO. ZeniMax Online is hard at work on The Elder Scrolls Online.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Student Edition will hit the shelves of select retailers tomorrow

In order to get a piece of the currently ongoing “back to school” sales frenzy in the United States, Samsung has released a Student Edition of its Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 slate. Set to go on sale in select retailers tomorrow, the tablet’s special edition bundle includes $100 worth of free accessories and an exclusive glossy white color.

The abovementioned free accessories include a keyboard dock and USB adapter, which supports USB flash drives, as well as peripherals such as USB mice. The price of the tablet has not been changed. Samsung is still asking the highly acceptable $249.99 for it.

While many will say that this is Google Nexus 7 money, keep in mind that Samsung’s offering features a microSD card slot, which might make a lot of difference for students. You can check out our review of the slate here.
